A Useful Trait

It's funny what you can learn about kids and their personalities at such a young age, don't you think?

Recently, I was doing that old trick with the boys where I "steal" their noses...you know what I'm talking about, right? You pinch the nose with the knuckles on your index and middle fingers, pull gently, and then stick your thumb between them and say "I got your nose!" Yeah, I know, old school, but it got a laugh from my boys and that's good enough for me.

Cole played along a few times before he got tired of it, but Max wanted me to keep going. After a few minutes he disappeared to his bedroom. When he came back, he was walking towards me holding out his toy pliers, saying "Here, Mommy. Me use dis..." And with that, he opened them up with both hands, grabbed a big ol' chunk of my nose, and clamped down. Ouch!

While I didn't particularly enjoy the attempt at ripping my nose off my face, I have to say I am glad to see that Max is still as resourceful as ever. He knew a set of pliers would be much more effective than a couple of measly knuckles. Silly mommy. Guess I should have thought of that!

Future Poet

Max has never really been a cuddler. Even as a baby he would squirm and wiggle his way out of my arms and onto his bed, or the floor, or wherever it was that he wanted to be. Cole, on the other hand, has always loved cuddling. Even now at 4 years old he requests a "mommy cuddle" fairly regularly. I love it.

Anyway, when I kiss either Cole or Max on the cheek, the response I get is in keeping with each of their personalities; Cole smiles and kisses me back, and Max quickly wipes off his face with the back of his hand.

So the other day, I leaned over and kissed Max on the cheek. He promptly wiped it off, and so I said in a silly voice, "Don't wipe my kisses off your face!" He giggled.

Cole giggled too and then said, "Kiss me, Mommy!"

"Oh, good," I said smiling. "At least one of my sons wants a mommy kiss!" And I kissed him on the cheek, at which point he giggled again and then promptly wiped off his face too.

"Cole! You're not suppose to wipe my kisses off your face."

To which he replied, "I was wiping it into my heart, Mommy."

Nice save, son. Nice save.
